Colonial Drive briefly shut down during talks with suspect, police say

A stretch of West Colonial Drive was shut down early Saturday morning after Orlando police were called to the scene of a domestic disturbance and had to negotiate with a suspect.

Orlando Police Department officers were called at approximately 4:50 a.m. on Saturday, May 13, to the Howard Vernon Motel at 600 West Colonial Drive after receiving calls regarding a domestic disturbance. The victim who called told police that a suspect had threatened her with a gun.

Upon arrival, officers were able to get the victim out of the apartment. The suspect initially refused to surrender, however.

Additional officers, including a K-9 unit and drone team, were used to provide support and eventually, the suspect surrendered and was arrested.

No information was released regarding the identity of the individual arrested. Orlando Police Department is still investigating the incident.
