Man suing Disney after falling off classic ride

An Orange County man who filed a lawsuit against Walt Disney World for over $50,000 claims he suffered “severe and permanent” injuries after he was thrown to the ground while on The Haunted Mansion Ride.

Billy Williams filed the complaint earlier this month in the ninth judicial circuit court in Orange County.

According to the complaint, Williams made a visit to the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World on April 28, 2022. While he was attempting to get on The Haunted Mansion Ride to join his wife, one of the employees operating the ride hit the emergency stop button.

The ride allegedly jolted forward without warning to Williams, causing him to fall from the ride onto the ground.

The complaint accuses the park of negligence and claims that Williams suffered bodily and terminal injury, “pain and suffering of both a physical and mental nature,” and past lost wages, among other injuries.

Williams is being represented by Orlando-based Morgan and Morgan. The complaint requests a judgement for damages against the park for over $50,000, as well as a trial jury.

The Haunted Mansion Ride is one of the oldest rides at Walt Disney World, having opened in 1971 along with the opening of the Magic Kingdom park. The attraction features a ride-through tour in vehicles called “doom buggies.”
