Fourth case of Monkeypox reported in Central Florida

Orange County reported its third case of monkeypox this week, marking four total cases throughout Central Florida.

The fourth case was reported through the Florida Department of Health’s Reportable Diseases Frequency Report, which was last updated on Friday, June 24.

Last week, health officials reported the second and third cases of the disease in Central Florida, with the first case being reported earlier this month.

The four cases are the only cases reported throughout the region, which includes Osceola, Volusia, Sumter, Lake, Marion, and Alachua counties, among others.

Over 200 cases of the disease have been reported across the country, which is nearly twice the amount reported just last week.

Around 16 cases have been reported across the state of Florida, and around 112 cases have been reported in California, Illinois, and New York, according to the CDC.

The Monkeypox virus produces symptoms similar to small pox, including fever, headache, muscle pain, chills and fatigue. Symptoms are generally milder and far less fatal than in small pox cases.
