A new, mid-block crosswalk has been added to a busy street in Orlando’s Audubon Garden Main Street District.
On Friday, July 29, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and other city officials unveiled a new, signalized crosswalk along Corrine Drive.
The mid-block hybrid beacon crosswalk is the first of its kind in the city.
“The new signalized crosswalk will help residents and visitors to the area cross the roadway safely and more easily,” reads a statement from the city.
The project includes decorative markings, curb extensions, and a new pedestrian refuge island in the area, all measures the city suggests support its Vision Zero initiative to eliminate pedestrian traffic fatalities and serious injuries by 2040.
“I enjoyed joining Commissioner Stuart to help staff with this project, which supports our Vision Zero initiative to eliminate traffic fatalities and serious injuries in our community,” said Mayor Dyer on social media.
