Orange, Seminole, Osceola County schools cancel classes due to Hurricane Ian

Orange, Seminole, and Osceola County Public Schools have announced closures this week in light of the impending impact of Hurricane Ian.

According to school officials in Orange County, beginning Tuesday, all after-school extra-curricular activities will be canceled, except for extended day, which will be open until 6 p.m. On Wednesday and Thursday, all Orange County schools and facilities will be closed, and extracurricular activities are also canceled.

All Osceola public schools will be closed for the next three days, beginning Tuesday, September 27, and continuing through Thursday, September 29.

Seminole County Public Schools announced that classes will also be closed for students and staff beginning Wednesday. Additional closures will be determined as the path of the storm becomes more certain, according to county officials.

The closures come in light of the strengthening of Hurricane Ian, which as reached 100 mph winds as of 5 p.m. on Monday. The hurricane is predicted to make landfall on Wednesday evening, and should bring heavy rainfall and dangerous winds all throughout Thursday and into Friday.
