Motorcyclist killed after crashing into semi-truck backing into parking lot on Colonial Drive

An Orlando man was killed last night after the motorcycle he was operating struck the back of a semi-truck that was attempting to back into a parking lot.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident took place on Colonial Drive on Tuesday evening around 9:56 p.m. The semi-truck was backing into a parking lot at 5937 East Colonial Drive.

The motorcycle, which was being driven by a 44-year-old man, was driving westbound, in the outside lane of the roadway. According to FHP, the semi-truck was blocking the westbound lanes of the roadway while it was backing into the parking lot.

The front of the motorcycle struck the left side of the semi-truck, causing the truck to catch fire.

The motorcyclist was transported to AdventHealth East, where he died of his injuries.

The crash remains under investigation and the names of those involved have not been released, per FHP policy.
