State Road 46 opens one lane in Seminole County as flooding still present

Florida Department of Transportation officials have opened one lane of State road 46 after nearly three weeks of closures due to flooding from Hurricane Ian.

The organization made the announcement on Tuesday, citing receding water levels at the St. John’s River. One lane of the highway has been open, and authorities say that it is for local traffic only.

Flaggers will be present to direct traffic in both directions. No heavy trucks, including semi-trucks and construction trucks, are permitted to use the road at present.

Officials say that as water levels continue to recede, both lanes will be restored.

“The department will continue to monitor the area around SR 46 and make adjustments as needed,” reads the statement from FDOT. The organization says that there is no estimate for reopening both lanes.
