Taco Kat opens new Sonora style taco, tequila spot in downtown Orlando

A new restaurant in downtown Orlando is paying homage to a town in Mexico known for its special tortillas.

Taco Kat celebrated its grand opening this week at 11 S Court Avenue, next door to Casey’s on Central. The new business replaces longtime resident Cleo’s Lounge, which closed up shop at the end of last year.

The restaurant specializes in Sonoran-style flour tortillas, which originate from Sonora, Mexico. The thin tortillas are handmade each day with Sonora wheat before they are cooked on a griddle, which produces a smoky flavor.

Tacos can be filled with a variety of proteins, including carne asada, pollo asado, beef barbacoa, and chorizo.

In addition to tacos, the restaurant serves up a variety of classic Mexican dishes, including small quesadillas and small burritos. The menu also features multiple sides and desserts, including corn esquites and tres leches cake.

Taco Kat joins a growing slate of restaurants in downtown Orlando, including another taco spot in Tacos My Guey, which celebrated its grand opening in August.

Taco Kat is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Friday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 a.m. For more information on the restaurant or its menu, visit the Taco Kat website.
