Two people electrocuted, killed by power lines downed by Tropical Storm Nicole

Two people were killed in Orange County after they were electrocuted by a power line that was downed by Tropical Storm Nicole.

Orange County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the intersection of Bayfront Parkway and Pershing Avenue in Conway at around 9:30 a.m. this morning in reference to a call about a man down.

Upon arrival, deputies found a man who was unresponsive after he exited a vehicle and made contact with a downed power line. The man was pronounced deceased on the scene.

A woman who was traveling with the man was also electrocuted and was transported to the hospital, where she later died.

Police have not identified the individuals involved in the incident, but are urging all residents and visitors to “use extreme caution” when walking outside in the wake of the storm today.

“Never touch a downed power line. If you are driving and see a downed power line, change directions immediately,” reads a statement from OCSO.

Anyone who seems downed power lines or other hazards produced by the storm is asked to contact 911 so that emergency crews may work to assess the danger.
