Severe thunderstorm warnings in effect for most of Central Florida

Officials have issued severe thunderstorm warnings for most of Central Florida as a result of storms this afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service, a severe thunderstorm warning has been issued through 8 p.m. across multiple counties, including Orange, Seminole, Volusia, Osceola, and Brevard. Additional storms and showers are being reported across Marion County, including Ocala.

Showers and lightning storms will move toward the east northeast at 25 to 30 mph, initially over the interior counties, according to NWS. Some of the storms will become severe, containing large damaging hail and winds, frequent lightning strikes and very heavy rain.

Additional storms will move northeast into Martin county containing gusty winds, heavy rain and frequent lightning. Conditions are favorable for storms to contain large hail, damaging wind gusts and possibly a tornado or two, according to officials.

The threat for large, damaging hail is of particular concern with quarter to golf ball size in some storms, and possibly larger. Very heavy rainfall will accumulate up to 3 inches in some areas, along with frequent cloud to ground lightning.
