Kissimmee felon facing 10 years in prison for guns, ammunition stockpile

A 28-year-old Kissimmee man is facing up to 10 years in prison after he was found guilty of possessing a stockpile of firearms and ammunition, despite being a convicted felon.

Daniel Stephen King was found guilty this week by a federal jury of possessing firearms and ammunition as a convicted felon, according to a press release from United States Middle District of Florida Attorney Roger B. Handberg.

King faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison.

According to court records, on April 23, Osceola County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to King’s residence in reference to a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, a resident of the home ran out with her four-year-old daughter and informed deputies that King had a large number of firearms and ammunition in the home. The resident also told police that King had strapped on a bullet proof vest.

King, who was on probation at the time, was prohibited from possessing guns and ammunition as a convicted felon.

Deputies surrounded the home and after a two-hour standoff, they persuaded King to come out and surrender.

After a warrant was obtained, the residence was searched and nine firearms were recovered, including three rifles, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, a ballistic vest, a rifle safe, multiple gun lockboxes, magazines, and an ammunition can.

King had to forfeit all of the firearms and ammunition that were part of the offense. He is scheduled to be sentenced on January 23, 2023.
