71-year-old trailer park groundskeeper crushed, killed by tree limb

A 71-year-old man was killed in a tragic accident after he was crushed by a large tree limb while cutting trees at the trailer park for which he worked.

According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, 71-year-old Gary Clancy of DeLeon Springs was killed on Monday while he was using a chainsaw to cut trees in a field along Covey Hill Way in DeLand.

A witness says that she heard the chainsaw idling at one point, but didn’t see Clancy, and decided to check on him. When she found him pinned under a large tree limb, she began screaming for help. Other bystanders heard the calls for help and collectively lifted the limb off Clancy.

They rolled Clancy away from the tree and attempted to perform CPR.

Clancy succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by responding Volusia County Fire Rescue units.
