Seminole County teachers, district agree to salary increases

Seminole County teachers reached an agreement with the school district on a new set of salary increases for the school year.

On Monday, the School Board of Seminole County and the Seminole Education Association, Inc. released a joint statement detailing the collective bargaining agreement they reached after months of negotiations.

“In the spirit of cooperation, the School Board of Seminole County and the Seminole Education Association, Inc. are pleased to announce that the parties have tentatively agreed to contract language and compensation,” reads the statement.

According to the new agreement, teacher salaries for beginning teachers and all others will be increased to a minimum of $48,500. All salary increases are retroactive to the beginning of the current contract year.

Recurring salaries will be increased at the following rates:

Highly Effective – $2,441.47

Effective – $1,997.57

Grandfather – $1,997.57

Additionally, all teachers at Title I served schools will receive a $100 supplement, and employees with 10 years or more of verified experience will receive $50 for each year of experience.

Those employees will receive a one-time retention bonus to be paid based on total verified work-related experience with Seminole County Public Schools. Employees may also receive a credit for up to ten years of other verified public school instructional experience outside of SCPS.

The statement indicates that additional details of the agreement will be provided next week within a ratification packet provided to teachers.

“The School Board and the Seminole Education Association, Inc., extend their appreciation to those who made contributions to a positive and productive bargaining process and look forward to the continuing partnership as we build upon the excellence of Seminole County Public Schools,” reads the statement.
