3-hour train ride from Orlando to Miami? Brightline to unveil new station at airport

Brightline will unveil a new station this week that will connect Orlando to South Florida by way of a 170-mile track.

Mayors Buddy Dyer and Jerry L. Demings will join Brightline representatives for the grand unveiling of the Orlando Brightline Station on Thursday, April 20, according to a statement issued by the city of Orlando.

The new train station will connect 170 miles of track from South Florida to Central Florida at the airport’s multimodal hub.

Last month, while testing their high speed rail between Orlando International Airport and Cocoa Beach, Brightline set the record for the fastest train in the southeast, reaching speeds of 130 mph.

The company says that once their trains begin carrying passengers between Orlando and Miami, they will operate at maximum speeds of 125 mph.

“This historic feat brings us one step closer to launching Brightline service between Orlando and Miami,” said Patrick Goddard, president of Brightline Trains. Goddard heralded the accomplishment as a “continuation of a dream” that the company has been “working towards for several years.”

Founded in 2018, Brightline currently serves Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Aventura, and Boca Raton.
