Pedestrian killed crossing Colonial Drive in sixth similar incident in 6 months

A 31-year-old woman was killed while she was crossing Colonial Drive on Friday night, joining at least five other pedestrians who have been killed in similar manners in the past six months.

The fatal accident took place near the intersection of Colonial Drive and Belvedere Road on Friday, September 22, at around 7:41 p.m.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the woman was crossing Colonial Drive from the median in a northerly direction. She was not in a marked crosswalk.

While the woman was crossing the roadway, she entered the direct path of a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe being driven by a 78-year-old Orlando man.

The woman was struck by the vehicle and was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where she was later pronounced deceased. The driver was not injured in the accident.

The fatal accident is one of several similar incidents that have claimed the lives of pedestrians this year on the Orlando roadway.

In June, a multi-vehicle accident on Colonial Drive left a pedestrian and a teenager seriously injured.

In April, a 52-year-old man was killed while he was attempting to cross Colonial Drive in Orange County.

In March, a 60-year-old Orlando man was killed while he was walking southbound across Colonial Drive, near Sandy Lane.

That same month, a 51-year-old Orlando man was killed while attempting to cross Colonial Drive near County Road 13.

Just one week before that incident, a 29-year-old mother was killed and her 2-year-old boy was critically injured after both were hit while crossing Colonial Drive.
