Orlando misses cut in bid to become host city for 2026 FIFA World Cup

Orlando came just short in its bid to become a host city for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

On Thursday, FIFA officials announced the list of sixteen host cities for their 2026 tournament. Although one city from the state of Florida made the cut, it was not the City Beautiful.

Instead, Miami was among the 16 named cities, which are located throughout North America.

In addition to Miami, the southeast boasts a second host city in Atlanta.

The other U.S. cities include Boston, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, New York/New Jersey, Philadelphia, and the San Francisco Bay Area.

Canada has two host cities in Toronto and Vancouver, while Mexico has three host cities in Guadalajara, Mexico City, and Monterrey.

The last time the World Cup was hosted in the United States was 1994, while Mexico hosted the World Cup in 1970 and 1984. Canada has never hosted any men’s World Cup matches, despite hosting the women’s World Cup in 2015.
