DeLand High School goes on lockdown after reports of weapons, missing child

DeLand High School was put on lockdown on Monday after reports of a possible missing child and weapons on campus.

On September 12, DeLand Police Department officers were notified by Seminole County Sheriff’s Office dispatch of reports of a missing child found at DeLand High School. The calls indicated the child was potentially carrying a firearm.

The school was put on lockdown and authorities from DPD and the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office searched the school. After a brief search, the school was cleared of any danger.

Authorities say that neither the missing child nor any firearms were found at the school.

The incident took place just a day after a social media scare put Lyman High School students and parents on edge. After an investigation by police, that threat was dispelled as “non-credible.”

Last week, DPD dispelled a similar threat at DeLand Middle School after a bomb threat was made on social media.
