Missing 5-year-old found dead in pond near home

A 5-year-old boy who wandered away from his home in Lake Nona on Wednesday was found dead in a nearby pond after hours of searching.

Aaron Pena was found dead in a body of water not far from his home, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

According to OCSO, Pena had last been seen around noon on Wednesday at his home on Savannah Landing Circle in Orlando, near Moss Park Road and State Road 417.

The sheriff’s office made the announcement that he was missing at around 5 p.m.

Pena, who was a non-verbal child with Autism, was found just hours later after dozens of residents offered assistance in search of the boy.

“We are grieving his loss and our prayers are with his family,” reads a statement from OCSO.

The fatal incident comes less than 10 days after a similar incident claimed the life of a 3-year-old boy. During that incident, Axel Caballero was found dead in a retention pond after wandering away from his home.
